FedExFamilyHouse opened its doors in December 2010 to provide free, comfortable accommodations to out-of-town families of patients at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Since opening, we have served more than 325,000 family members from all 50 states and around the world.
FedExFamilyHouse is located in Memphis, Tennessee, at the corner of Poplar Avenue and Ayers Street – across the street from Le Bonheur. The house features 75 suites and rooms, multiple dining areas, recreational spaces and a small business center.
FedExFamilyHouse was founded by Susan Graf, who learned at a young age how long-distance health care impacts a family. When she was 9 years old, her mother moved with her special needs brother to Philadelphia for his medical treatment while Susan and the rest of the family stayed behind in Boston. This experience inspired Susan to create a home for out-of-town families with children receiving treatment at Le Bonheur.
Financial support for construction of FedExFamilyHouse came from a $2.3 million donation from FedEx Corp. and personal donations from Fred Smith, Chairman and CEO, and his wife, Diane, and Alan Graf, executive vice president and CFO, and his wife, Susan.
We’re able to provide free lodging for families thanks to the generosity of our donors and kindness of our volunteers.
